Ceremonial Demolition of the University Lodge Monday Augest 2, 2010

On Monday August 2nd the Vigilant Hose Company and the Shippensburg Area EMS took the first visible step to seeing our dream of a new and modern fire station. At a ceremony held at the vacant hotel Presidents and Chief's of each organization, along with community members spoke on the importance of this day and our future. This also marked the beginning of our Capitol Campaign, chaired by Dr, Jim Freeman and his wife Sandi. Then the track hoe operator from Charles E. Brake proceeded to level what was once the office and registration area of the building. Plans now are for the remainder of the structure to be demo'ed, fill placed and seed planted, awaiting next Spring's ground breaking.

8-7-10 Auto Accident Walnut Bottom Road & Airport Road

The Vigilants were called to the intersections of Walnut Bottom and Airport Rds for an MVA. Engine 252 arrived to find an a 4 vehicle colision. Engine 252 checked all four vehilces for fuild leaks while the two Ambulances from 73 and Engine 154 checked for injuries. Units cleared the scene after 20 minutes.

Just after 5pm Company 52 was dispatched to a motorcycle accident on Fogelsonger Road between Britton Road and Rails to Trails. Engine 2 and the Brush truck responded along with Squad 15 and an ambulance out of 73. 52's crews set the bike up and assisted EMS with the patient.

The Vigilants were called out for a rollover accident at the north bound on ramp to I-81 shortly after 5 PM. Engine 252, Squad 15 and Ambulance 73 arrived to find an SUV on it's roof beyond the right-of-way fence near the powerline. 52 secured the vehicle and assisted with the patient. With the roadway clear all units went in service, Fire Police remained on scene until all was clear.

Units from Company 52 responded to a reported vehicle fire at Walmart on Conestoga Drive, Southampton Township, Cumberland County. Engine 252  arrived on scene to find a full size van well involved in flames. Engine 2's crew did a fine job with the knock down and overhaul.

Workers from Charles Brake reduced the old Universoty Lodge to rubble today. One more step in seeing the new Shippensburg Emergency Services Building and the Vigilants' new home. Now is a matter of picking out the recyclables and hauling away the rest. Then it's fill the void with dirt and plant some grass until next spring.

8/26/2010 SFD Training Day - Rural Water Supply

Training was held along the creek behind the old Hoffman Mills building to review rural water supply. Crews set up a draft from the creek with Engine 252 as supply engine to a simulated tanker shuttle. Engine 15-1 set up to draft from the portable pond and demonstrated a siphion system. Tanker 52 served as tanker for the shuttle.

8/28/2010 Shippensburg Corn Festival

The 30th annual Shippensburg Corn Festival couldn't have ordered more perfect weather. The members of the Vigilant Hose Company parked cars and vendors at the SFAC parking lot in the early morning hours and crews were on station all day along with EMS and ALS personnel. The day for the crews was broken up by a short tanker run to Greene Township for a kitchen fire and an automatic fire alarm activation at the Shippensburg Health Care center.
