The Vigilant Hose Company has a very active live-in program, as it is located just a mile from the Shippensburg University campus. This presents a wonderful opportunity for college students who want to stay active in the fire service. It also provides a good home environment for working and studying - whether studying for college or training for the fire service. The requirements for live-ins are simple:

1) Respond to fire incidents, when available.

2) Maintain active fire status with the fire department. This means that you must keep current trainings such as Hazmat in order to maintain riding status. Also, an active member is required to help with bingo once every four weeks. All members are assigned to a specific bingo crew.

3) Follow all firehouse rules, such as maintaining a clean living space.

4) Assist in work details and tasks around the firehouse as needed.
