The Vigilant Hose Company #1 Needs You!

The Vigilant Hose Company is currently seeking volunteers in our community! And EVERYBODY has something to offer. While we are always seeking active firefighters/fire police to answer the call from the community in their time of need, we need more than firefighters! The everyday office work, vehicle and facility maintenance work, and community outreach are just a couple of chores that keep us busy. These tasks can be taxing on a volunteer fire companies’ dwindling volunteer staff and this is why we are asking you to bring your talents to the table to help! We need individuals from every walk and profession in life.

Administrative Assistance

The everyday tasks associated with running a volunteer fire company are very administratively based. We are seeking volunteers you would be interested assisting with letter writing, record keeping, file management and much more. We are also seeking individuals with a background in financial planning and bookkeeping, as well as folks with legal expertise and a vast knowledge base on insurances.

Facility Maintenance

The Vigilant Hose Company is currently housed in a 80+ year old building. There is an abundance of work that goes into the upkeep of this aging facility as you can imagine. We are always in need of volunteers to assist in the general maintenance of this building. This maintenance can encompass anything from changing a light bulb, painting, fixing plumbing or replacing garage doors. We are also seeking individuals who may be interested in helping with the cleaning duties in our station.

Fleet Maintenance

At the Vigilant Hose Company we are the proud owners of 2008 Ford Expedition (Chief 52), a 1999 E-One Cyclone (Engine 152), a 2006 E-One Cyclone II (Engine 252), a 1995 Dodge Ram 3500 (Brush 52), 1992 GMC Tanker (Tanker 52), a 2004 Dodge Ram Pick-up (Utility 52), and a StepVan (Fire Police 52). These vehicle require a lot of time and maintenance work to keep them operating. We are seeking individuals that maybe able to assist in everything from vehicle maintenance to just washing the apparatus.

Fundraising

Fundraising is a vital yet at times taxing necessity for our company. We are always in need of volunteers to help out at our weekly bingos, assist in our solicitation efforts and assist in the creation and planning of any new fundraisers.

Community Outreach

Our community outreach programs are very important to us and are something we can always use a little added help for. We offer fire prevention programs year round and go out to various schools, daycares and local businesses providing fire prevention information and smoke detectors.

Internship Opportunities

The Vigilant Hose Company has been fortunate to have assistance of several students from Shippensburg University serving as interns. There is ample experience to be gained for graduate and undergraduate students at the Vigilant Hose Company. There are opportunities in public relations work, finance, history, mapping, and so much more!
